Throughout
the nineties, the country experienced regime
changes and social problems, notably a teacher's
strike and a decline in the demographic figures,
which led to a drop in the school admission
rate, especially amongst girls. Since then,
programmes have been established, such as the
PAM project providing dry food packets to girls
in remote minority group areas to encourage
and promote girls' access to education. However,
in spite of all the efforts, 1 in every 3 girls
in the country still do not have access to basic
education.
