08 March, 2007 - 9:00 a.m., Begusarai: The Hon'ble Chief Judicial Magistrate Mr. A. P. Tripathi continued the March waving the green flag. In his remarks, he assured of full cooperation of the judicial system to abolish the child labour problem and child trafficking for the purpose of exploitation.
At 11:30 A.M. March reached at Vidyapati Nagar (Samastipur) where the March was welcomed by Sewa Mahila Bal Vikas Kendran in a traditional custom by putting colour on forehead and handmade traditional caps by local women.
Welcome speech was delivered by Ms. Neelu Mala. Dilip Singh (Zila Parishad Pramukh) stressed upon the education of the village children. Dilip also stressed upon information technology and advises to use the benefits of information technology in the life. After that Ajay, 9, addressed the meeting raising the child rights issues.
At 2:00 PM Yatra reached Muzaffarpur where the March was welcomed by the leading local organization, Adithi, at Jubba Sahni Auditorium where a grand public meeting was held on the occasion of International Women's day welcoming the March.
In this meeting, various organizations and Officers of Muzaffarpur district were present. Arjunram-District Development Commissioner, Muzaffarpur, Anurg -Deputy Collector Muzaffarpur, Nisha (Prayas Bharti Trust), Manbendra Mandal (ATSEC), Poonam (Mahila Samakhya), Ganesh Prasad Singh (ADITHI), Anupam Srivastava (UNICEF) were amongst those present in this meeting.
Manbendra Mandal (ATSEC) raised the issue on the women and children and gave the reference of international convention on women. He put a query in the assembly that despite the law there is no implementation.
Neesha (Prayas Bharti Trust) stressed upon the following issues i.e. education for all girls, participation of women in making women welfare and panel law, restricting female foeticide, etc. Anupam Srivastava (UNICEF) stated in the assembly that approx. 23 lakh children are out of school in India but no specific data has been ascertained in case of child trafficking.
In his keynote address, Kailash Satyarthi said that despite all the tall claims of high economic growth by the government, menace of child trafficking is flourishing fast as a lucrative illicit trade in India. India has grown as source, destination and safe transit to other countries for child trafficking. Some parts of Bihar became a safe haven for traffickers and other criminal gangs.
After the meeting, a big rally was started from Jubba Sahani Auditoriam up to the Red Light Area of Muzaffarpur awarding the public about the women and child trafficking for the purpose of exploitation and illegal flesh trade.
