Global March Against Child Labour - From Exploitation to Education

18 March 2007: At 8:00 AM the South Asian March Against Child Trafficking started from Lakhimpur for Nepal. On the way at Paila the march was welcomed by Mr Dtta Ram Bharghav ( Member of Parliament, Paila ).

The rally was taken out from Railway Stateion modh . The marchers were welcomed and a song, Rang de Basanti was presented Hansa Singh  and his team – Kranti , Kuldeep. Amit and Navneet. Later Hansa Singh explained that this freedom song of children. Many dignitaries NGOs and parliamentarians came to welcome the March.

Ms Suman, member of Vanvasi Sewa Sanasthan said that  we should work for children and women and do are best to empower the deprived and downtrodden. Ms Suman further presented a poem written by her on the issue of child trafficking.

" Ban kar beti samaj ki, smaaj sewa karma chahti hoon,
Bal Vyaapar jaisey dushkarmon ko smaaj se mitanan chahti hoon"

Mr Ram Pravesh, a Member of Parliament, said that the South Asian March Against Child Trafficking has started and will end only when we will achieve our goal. He further stated that we have to fight and do whatever it takes to abolish child trafficking.

Mr Chaubey, director of Vanvasi Sewa Sansthan said that his organization had carried out a survey on the border areas of India and Nepal sometime back and it was found that 4607 children between the ages of 8-16 work away from home in hotels, roadside eatries homes and as bonded labourers with many working in metropolitan cities. He stated that unemployment and no means of livelihood is one of the main reasons along with poverty and illiteracy for child trafficking.

Mr Gopal ( Region head ) said this  that 60 years have passed since we got freedom but we are still fighting against poverty and crime. The justice of our country is being sold. So whosoever government comes will not make any difference until we the citizen of India put their foot forward against injustice and corruption. Today the biggest problem is illiteracy and government should make provisions for free and compulsory education. Mahatma Gandhi was alone in movement but people joined him same way I make Kailash Styarthi stand at Mahatma Gandhi's position as you have started a movement and we people will join and strengthen your this fight against child trafficking for forced labour."

In the end Kailsah Satyarthi stating the importance of the march as the only and the first effort made against child trafficking said that the children who were bought or sold and suffered torture and exploitation at the hands of the people who bought them are today holding their national flags high with the hope to bring about a change in their countries.

The South Asian March Against Child Trafficking  entered Nepal from Dhangari ,  Mr Ravi Prakash Verma ( memberof parliament) also marched with the core marchers. Zila Bal Kalyaan Samiti and BASE welcomed the march with beautiful dancers performing Mungrawa dance of Rana community.

Mr Ramanshrisht (Zila Bal Kalyaan Samiti ) said that the effort by Bachpan Bachao Andolan will definitely be fruitful and we all believe in it".

Abdul Rayees Khan former director of Allahabad University said that with the inspiration and guidance of Mr Ravi Prakash Verma joined this march. We in the Indian Parliament are trying to build a new law for child trafficking, I today want to request Nepal political parties to raise this issue in parliament also.
