Global March Against Child Labour - From Exploitation to Education

Several trillion dollars have been committed by the governments in the past six weeks to reward the failures of the market place whereas only $16 billion is needed to fund Education for All. This would allow countries to expand education, recruiting and training the teachers that shape the minds and abilities of every child, even those in the most challenging of circumstances. The poorest and most vulnerable children must not fall further victim to a global recession that was not their making. In a time of financial crisis, this is the most worthwhile investment the global community could make.' Kailash Satyarthi, Chairperson, Global March and GCE President.

Between 16th and 28th of November, Global March France together with 11 other NGOs have received 663 school children coming from 34 classes. Following a half hour presentation of the problem of child labour and Children Rights, groups of 10 children had to work like young journalists and prepare the first page of a news paper : " The Messenger of The Children". Class of 2015: Education For All |
New York, NY, Today, the "Class of 2015: Education for All" launched a new effort to build the political will to achieve education goals and remind world leaders of their promise that every child will get the opportunity of an education by 2015. A remarkable line up of supportive governments, faith groups, NGOs, sports, private sector organizations and education advocates registered their commitment to action on education, announcing pledges of $4.5 billion towards the achievement of education for all, over the next three years - two-thirds of this for basic education. When delivered, this money will be enough to educate 15 million children, including those struggling to stay in school as well as new entrants.

Kailash Satyarthi, Chairperson, Global March against Child Labour received the 25thInternational Alfonso Comín Award. For the efforts to end child labour, condemning systems that require children to work, both at the global, national and regional levels, and exerting pressure to achieve political changes and jointly developing policies and actions to achieve a unified response to child labour, illiteracy and poverty.
