This new video Ghana Union Fights Child Labor in Cocoa Production, is produced by the General Agricultural Workers’ Union of Ghana (GAWU) with support from the Solidarity Center. The video documents how GAWU is using the collective power of its 30,000 cocoa farmer members and their families, together with their communities, school authorities, and local and national leaders in more than 180 cocoa farming communities to get children out of work and into school. GAWU’s model represents the multiple intervention and community-based approach recommended in a 2020 NORC report that found a 14 percent increase in child labor in Ghana cocoa production in less than a decade.
