Swatantra Abhiyan Nepal (SAN) organised a virtual ‘Parliamentary Forum to End Forced Labour’ on 27 August 2020, to promote parliamentary efforts to address forced labour through ratification of ILO Convention 29 and other policy measures. The virtual event saw participation from 24 representatives from the Nepal government, 3 trade unions and 30 NGOs and INGOs.
The lawmakers committed to make necessary amendments to the existing laws to tackle the problem of forced labour, including child labour. For effective implementation of labour laws, a capacity building training manual will be created for the police officers and labour inspectors, as decided during the forum.
