Global March is pleased to announce the appointment of Governing Board member Ms Virginia Murillo Herrera, President of the Costa Rican Chapter of Defence for Children International (DCI), to the Board of Trustees of the UN Trust Fund for Victims of Human Trafficking. The Trust Fund was established by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in November 2010 to provide support to organisations working to make a real difference to the lives of trafficking victims.
The Board of Trustees was appointed by the UN Secretary-General to support the Fund Manager, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in ensuring efficient, transparent, and accountable administration and to support uniform and consolidated reporting. Contributions to the Fund may be made by governments, intergovernmental or non-governmental organisations, private-sector organisations and the public at large and Global March would encourage members and partners to contribute whatever they can to this important fund. The Trust Fund has received nearly US$1 million in donations from the public and private sector to date.
The Board of Trustees held its inaugural meeting on 3 February 2011 at the UNODC headquarters in Vienna, Austria where it took the first steps toward the establishment of a UN-led ‘Small Grants Facility’ for victims of human trafficking in a move aimed at strengthening practical assistance to survivors of this crime. A public call will be made over the coming months through the UNODC website.

Dr Saisuree Chutikul, Chair of the National Sub-committee on Combating Trafficking in Children and Women of Thailand’s Ministry of Social Development and Human Security and member of the National Commission on Women’s Affairs and Family and National Commission on Children and Youth.
Mr Nick Kinsella, former CEO of the UK Human Trafficking Centre and member of the National Criminal Intelligence Service and Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary.
