4th International Meeting Against Child Labour in Mexico

The 4th International Meeting Against Child Labour was held recently on 21st March 2013 in Mexico. Organised by Fundación Telefónica in collaboration with ILO, UNESCO - Santiago de Chile Office, and the Government of the State of Mexico, the purpose of the 4th Meeting was to contribute to the Third Global Conference on Child Labour “Strategies to Accelerate the Pace of Elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labour” that will be held during the month of October 2013 in Brazil. Kailash Satyarthi, Chairperson, Global March Against Child Labour also participated in this event and was a keynote speaker on “Human Rights and Child Labour”. Pointing out that the 215 million children now left in exploitative situations (ILO, 2010) or 61 million out-of-school children (EFA GMR, 2012) are from the difficult and hard to reach category, Mr. Satyarthi stated that it is these children which are facing the gravest abuse of their human rights and thus need our urgent attention.
