Multi-Stakeholders Join Hands to Promote Child Rights in Sri Lanka

Global March member, CCH Sri Lanka in collaboration with Department of Probation and Child Care Services, District Child Development Committee (National Child Protection authority of Sri Lanka) organised a Child Rights Symposium on 23 December 2019 at Hotel Tilco in Colombo, Sri Lanka, with the participation of over 80 actors working in the field of child rights, such as Parliamentarians, University lecturers, civil society organisation leaders, Commissioner of Probation of Child Care and Department , Police, Ministry of Education, representatives from National Child Protection Authority and Department of Education.

During the symposium, several issues of child rights were discussed under 9 themes through panel discussions. Each session was facilitated by different CSO leaders and other speakers which included academicians and child rights practitioners as well as government stakeholders. The findings of the discussion were documented as an advocacy document to hand over to the Government.

Parliamentarian Hon Angajan Ramanathan MP who is also the District Development Committee leader participated as chief guest at the event. The conference was appreciated by all the participants since it marked the 30th anniversary of UNCRC. The participants requested to continue the efforts in future as it brings awareness for all stakeholders at a common forum.
